Bus-Handle LUMINA is a handrail system for public transport, designed with built-in UV disinfection. It improves hygiene in high-traffic settings like buses, trams, and metro cars, offering a safer, cleaner alternative to standard surface cleaning. The goal is to reduce the risk of infection, without changing how people use the space.

Bus-Handle LUMINA uses safe far-UV light in the 207-222 nanometer range, a wavelength proven to kill bacteria and viruses while being safe for human skin and eyes. Unlike standard UV at 254 nm, which can be harmful with direct exposure, far-UV makes disinfection safe for people, even in crowded settings. The handle slowly rotates to expose all surfaces to the light. When someone grabs it, the rotation stops, so it stays comfortable and easy to use.

LUMINA was developed using research showing that far-UV light effectively neutralizes viruses and bacteria. The aim was to combine strong hygiene with comfort and ease of use. The system was tested in real-world conditions, including crowded city buses and trams, to ensure safety, durability, and performance.
