The Design Laboratory®
Sustainability is no longer optional. It’s part of designing responsibly, making sure that what we create serves a purpose, meets real needs, and does less harm along the way.
At The Design Laboratory, we look at the full picture. That means considering every phase of a product’s life: how it’s made, how it’s used, how long it lasts, and what happens after. We choose materials that are renewable, recyclable, or have a lower environmental impact. The goal is to build products that last without creating unnecessary waste.
We also look at energy use, both during production and in everyday use. When it makes sense, we integrate energy-efficient features to reduce impact over time.
Products are designed to be taken apart, repaired, or recycled. This helps extend their lifespan and reduce what ends up as waste. A modular approach also makes it easier to update or improve parts without starting from scratch.
We work with manufacturing partners who share these values, focusing on clean production, low emissions, and responsible labor. Sustainable design doesn’t stop at the drawing board. It carries through to how things are made.
Most importantly, we design for real people. A sustainable product also has to be useful, desirable, and practical. Otherwise, it won’t stay in use. Good design supports both the user and the planet.
At The Design Laboratory, we design with a long view in mind. The goal stays the same: to create products that work, last, and waste less.
